Julie Chandra
LLB (UNSW)
Julie Chandra has been practising law for 21 years, since graduating from the University of New South Wales with Distinction. For a large part of that time, Julie has worked in media and telecommunications law. Julie has been a Principal Lawyer at the Australian Communications and Media Authority since 2009 where she advises on the regulation of broadcasting, the internet and telecommunications in Australia.
Prior to joining the ACMA, Julie worked in private practice in the areas of Trade Practices, Intellectual Property, Litigation, Product Liability and Commercial Contractual Disputes. Julie worked at several top tier law firms including Herbert Smith Freehills (Freehills, as it was then known), Clayton Utz, Ashurst Australia (Blake Dawson Waldron, as it was then known) and Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Julie also spent a number of years seconded to Vodafone, where in addition to advising on regulatory matters, she advised on advertising, privacy, sponsorship and licensing. Julie has given a number of presentations including: “Facebook and Twitter – Managing the legal issues associated with promoting your brand on social networking sites”, “Advertising and Consumer Protection Provisions”, and “Consumer Protection within the Australian Telecommunications Industry – The Regulatory Framework”. Julie was a regular contributor to the publication previously known as the CCH Health & Medical Law Update.
